Superfast availability stands at 83.4% of postcodes, some twenty points adrift of the national picture of roughly 97%. The county's slow tail is heavy too. 10.8% of postcodes fall below 10 Mbps, roughly one in nine, and with 12,359 postcodes in play that is more than 1,300 with speeds in single figures.

Gigabit tells a similar story. Capable connections are recorded at 61.6% of postcodes, so a majority of the county has no route to the top speed tiers at all. Shropshire spans 38 outward codes, among them LL14, LD7 and DY7 as well as CW3, DY12 and DY14, and none of the headline figures should be assumed to hold in any one of them. The county average is a warning here, not a promise.

For a household, the practical question is which side of two lines an address falls on. Above 30 Mbps, ordinary streaming and homeworking are fine, and 83.4% of postcodes get there. Below 10 Mbps, which applies to around one postcode in nine, everyday tasks drag and the fixed-line market offers little. With gigabit recorded at under half of postcodes, even well-served addresses may find the fastest advertised packages unavailable, so tempering expectations before a move is wise.
