What the mix means for households is straightforward. A household landing in the gigabit-covered majority gets an upgrade path that should outlast most tenancy or ownership horizons. One landing in the superfast-only band, roughly a third of postcodes, gets workable everyday broadband with little headroom. The 3.9% below 10 Mbps is where genuine problems live, since sustained video calls, cloud backups and large downloads all struggle at that level. Averages across 4,932 postcodes hide which of the three bands applies to a single address.
