Broadband in Derbyshire Dales

Full fibre tells the clearest story here. Across all 2,222 postcodes it reaches 6.8%, roughly a tenth of the UK average of about 69 per cent of premises passed. The spread behind that number is wide. S33 leads, with fibre recorded at just over four postcodes in ten. S11 follows at about a third, S32 at close to one in six. DE4, DE45 and DE6 record none at all.

The broader measures run down the same slope. Superfast coverage of 84.9% trails the national norm by a clear margin, gigabit availability stops at 49.1%, and 6.7% of postcodes fall below 10Mbps. Ten outward codes feed these figures. In practice the Dales offer decent broadband at most postcodes and very good broadband at some, with the odds shifting noticeably from one outward code to the next.

Where the speed mix is this uneven, a single average misleads in both directions. Half the area's postcodes can order gigabit services, which suits data-heavy households. The other half cannot, and about one postcode in 15 falls below 10Mbps altogether. Anyone comparing addresses across the Dales will get more from the outward-code detail than from any headline figure: S33 and S11 look strongest on fibre, while DE4, DE45 and DE6 show none recorded.
