More than nine in ten Cambridge postcodes, 92.5% to be exact, sit within reach of a gigabit-capable network, so connections built for 1,000 Mbps are the norm here rather than the exception. Superfast coverage at 30 Mbps or better runs higher still, at 98.5% of postcodes, a shade above the national norm of roughly 97 per cent. The slow tail has almost gone. Only 0.3% of postcodes record speeds below 10 Mbps, which across 2,637 postcodes amounts to a small handful of addresses rather than any recognisable pattern. For most households the practical question is not whether a fast line exists but which tier to pay for. A gigabit package is available to the overwhelming majority, and everyone else is very unlikely to be stuck below superfast.

With 99.7% of postcodes above the 10 Mbps line, choosing broadband in Cambridge is mostly a matter of matching price to usage. Heavy households, shared houses and anyone moving large files will get value from the gigabit tiers that cover most of the city. Lighter users can take a cheaper superfast deal with little risk of hitting a coverage gap.
