The slow tail is modest. Around 1.3% of connections fall below 10 Mbps, which still leaves a pocket of addresses where basic streaming is a struggle. Coverage also shifts across the borough's 10 outward codes, so two streets a short walk apart can face different choices. For the 16% of premises without a gigabit option today, superfast services remain the realistic ceiling, and comparing providers on price makes more sense than waiting for speeds the local network cannot yet deliver.

For a household weighing up a move within South Tyneside, speed is unlikely to be the deciding factor at most addresses. The great majority can get superfast or better, and more than four in five can go all the way to gigabit. The exceptions matter, though. A property in the 1.3% below 10 Mbps will feel it every day, and borough-wide averages give no clue about where those addresses sit.
