Broadband in Plymouth

Plymouth's broadband profile is strong at both ends. Superfast services reach 96.7% of postcodes, essentially level with the UK average of around 97%. Gigabit-capable connections cover 90.9%, so the large majority of addresses can order speeds far beyond what a typical household uses. The floor is what marks the city apart from its own averages: only 0.7% of postcodes sit under 10 Mbps, which makes genuinely slow addresses rare. Across 6,121 postcodes that still leaves a handful of pockets where options are thin, and those addresses never show up in city-wide figures. For everyone else the decision is about price and speed tier rather than availability. A household that wants gigabit has better than nine-in-ten odds of getting it at any given postcode. Superfast, meanwhile, is close to guaranteed, and the sub-10 Mbps cases are the exception rather than a pattern.

The speed mix favours ordinary households. Streaming, gaming and home working are comfortably within reach at the overwhelming majority of addresses, and the 90.9% gigabit figure gives heavy users an upgrade path. The 0.7% slow tail is the only group with a genuine problem, and it is small.
