Gigabit-capable coverage, which the dataset records as cable network availability rather than full fibre, extends to 83.9% of postcodes. So five postcodes in six can order top-tier speeds today. What remains is a thin tail: 1.3% of postcodes fall below 10 Mbps. Across an area this size that still translates to a real cluster of poorly served addresses, even though the proportion looks trivial on paper. The eight outward codes run from ME1, ME2 and ME3 through to ME7, ME8 and ME9. Given the volume of postcodes each one absorbs, the sensible move for any specific address is a direct lookup rather than trusting the district-wide averages.

The mix suits most household types. Ordinary streaming and home working needs are met almost everywhere, since only 3.7% of postcodes lack a superfast option. Bandwidth-hungry households have gigabit available in 83.9% of postcodes, which removes the usual compromise between location and connectivity for the clear majority of movers. The 1.3% slow tail is the exception worth screening for when shortlisting a property.
