Superfast, meanwhile, is effectively universal at 99.5%, so even addresses without a fibre line can order something respectable. For most residents the remaining question is price rather than availability, since a fast connection of some kind is on offer at nearly every door in the city and gigabit-capable options cover almost as many.

The speed mix here favours households that use a lot of bandwidth. With gigabit-capable lines available to 96.7% of premises, shared houses and families with heavy streaming habits can buy as much capacity as they are ever likely to need. Budget-focused households lose nothing either, since near-universal superfast keeps entry-level deals on the table. Only LE7 residents need to temper expectations before shopping around.
