The two ends of the market tell different stories here. Superfast itself reaches 95.8 per cent, a shade under the UK's roughly 97 per cent. At the bottom, 1.6 per cent of postcodes cannot get 10 Mbps, a larger slow tail than the gigabit figure would lead you to expect. Six outward codes cover the area's 2,636 postcodes. The dataset does not break coverage down between them, so an address in the slow tail can only be identified at postcode level. For most households, though, the practical takeaway is simple: top-tier speeds are available in more than nine postcodes out of ten.

That 1.6 per cent below 10 Mbps deserves the attention. A household landing in one of those postcodes faces real limits on video calls and streaming, while a neighbour inside the 92.7 per cent gigabit footprint has the opposite problem of choosing between fast tiers. Confirming the exact postcode before signing a tenancy or a mortgage matters more in Hartlepool than the headline averages suggest.
