Broadband in Carmarthenshire

Superfast broadband reaches 77.7% of Carmarthenshire's 6,634 postcodes. Set against a national norm of roughly 97 per cent, that leaves the county nearly twenty points adrift, and it means more than a fifth of postcodes cannot rely on a 30 Mbps connection. Gigabit-capable coverage tells a similar story at 55.5%, so just over half the county can order the fastest products while the rest cannot.

Then there is the tail. At 12.3%, the share of postcodes below 10 Mbps is high by any modern standard. For affected households the difference is not between fast and faster but between a usable connection and a frustrating one. Anyone moving within the county should treat the postcode lookup as essential, because the gap between Carmarthenshire's best-served and worst-served addresses is as wide as the numbers suggest.

The speed mix splits Carmarthenshire households into three rough groups. Just over half sit in gigabit-capable postcodes and can buy whatever they like. Another chunk has superfast but nothing faster. And one in eight postcodes falls below 10 Mbps, where the sensible questions are about alternatives and upgrade prospects rather than which streaming bundle to add.
